I had the opportunity to discuss the critical issue of caste discrimination with The Wire during Dalit History Month. This month, commemorating the struggles of Dalits and marking the birthdays of prominent anti-caste figures Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Jyotirao Phule, reminds us of the ongoing fight against caste oppression. The article highlighted the persistence of persecution, violence, and marginalization faced by Dalits, Adivasis, and other caste-oppressed groups. It also noted the significant step taken by the Australian Human Rights Commission in recognizing casteism as a form of racial discrimination last year. My conversation with The Wire focused on my experiences with casteism and how we can effectively challenge it in Australia.
