Resisting Caste(ism) in Australia is structured as a personal ballad of resistance. The documentary follows filmmaker Vikrant Kishore on a 3,500-kilometre road journey from Melbourne to Sydney, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, and back, as he speaks with seven members of the Dalit community and records testimonies from activists, allies, and others who have faced caste-based discrimination. Through interviews and reflexive narration, the film examines how caste persists within South Asian diasporic communities through exclusion, silence, and coded social practices. Challenging the denial of caste in multicultural Australia, the documentary presents caste as an intergenerational trauma that continues to influence belonging, even among educated and professionally integrated migrants. More than an account of discrimination, the film foregrounds assertion, Dalit voices naming caste, resisting oppressor caste dominance, and demanding recognition.
