Engaging with Cultural Heritage and Fashion: Vikrant Kishore at UNESCO Partner’s Meeting in Chuxiong, China

Writer: Vikrant KishoreVikrant Kishore

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Partner’s Meeting on the Integration of Intangible Cultural Heritage into Contemporary Fashion Design, organised by UNESCO and the Chuxiong Government in Yunnan, China.

This event provided a valuable platform to engage with Yi traditional culture, exploring its crafts and practices while connecting with over 150 delegates from across East Asia.

During the visit, I had the chance to experience key cultural events, including the Yi Ethnic Costume Competition and the Lantern Festival at Zhiju Village, attended by over 10,000 participants. These gatherings showcased the depth of cultural traditions and their evolving expressions in contemporary contexts.

The discussions at the event focused on the intersection of cultural preservation and creative industries, highlighting ways to sustain heritage while fostering innovation. The insightful exchanges with industry professionals and cultural experts provided valuable perspectives on the future of intangible cultural heritage in design and fashion.
